Alpha Lipoic Acid 300mg – 30 – Tablet Overview

“Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant that is naturally produced in the body. Unlike other antioxidants lipoic acid is both fat and water-soluble and is easily transported across cell membranes. This unique quality offers protection against free radicals both inside and outside the cell while other antioxidants may provide only extracellular protection*. Lipoic acid is able to regenerate other antioxidants like vitamin E, vitamin C and glutathione (after scavenging free radicals). Lipoic acid has shown great benefits in cardiovascular health and balancing blood glucose*. ”

Anti-Aging Antioxidants – How to Stay Young and Healthy

Antioxidant properties to prevent cancer are well known, but did you know that there are anti-aging antioxidants? We all want to feel and look young, for as long as possible and antioxidants can help to defeat age. Find out what are the most important antioxidants for antiaging.

Common mushrooms contain anti-aging antioxidants. According to the study by Penn State University eating ordinary white-bottom mushrooms regularly, can prevent cancer and cardiovascular diseases, as well as have significant anti-aging effect. These mushrooms are an excellent source of ergothioneine, a powerful anti-aging antioxidant.

Ergothioneine and Free Radicals

Free radicals are one of the main causes for aging because they cause cell damage. Several types of antioxidants are effective to neutralize them. Ergothioneine is one of the best to fight free radicals that is why it is an important antioxidant for antiaging. Recently wheat germ was considered an essential source for this antioxidant, but apparently mushrooms contain twelve times more ergothioneine. So adding mushrooms to your salads or meat dishes can be a great source of anti-aging antioxidant.

Antiaging antioxidant supplements

You can find many antioxidant dietary supplements for anti-aging. A very popular one is Lifespan Extension Complex that contains 120 capsules of Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Alpha Lipoic Acid as well as Bioperine. It claims to boost your immune system, give you additional energy and vitality. Its anti-aging formula is proven to reduce brown spots making your skin look younger. It is also claims to reduce deterioration of brain cells, which happens as we age.

Most anti-aging antioxidant supplements contain large doses of Vitamin E, ethoxyquin and BHT. While doctors still debate about the effect of Vitamin E on aging, the positive effects of ethoxyquin and BHT are proven.

You have to remember that it is best to consult your doctor before taking any anti-aging supplements. Even the greatest antioxidants can be toxic in large doses, and since most of them are not water soluble, you should never take too much.

Antioxidants for younger looking skin

The skin is what really gives your age away. And to keep it young and healthy looking, you don’t need any special supplements. Natural antioxidants found in many foods, can help your skin look younger. While scientists are still not sure if Vitamin E has real effect on anti-aging, it is well known that this powerful antioxidant is beneficial for the skin. The same can be said about Vitamins A and C.

There are many antiaging creams with vitamins and antioxidants. But it is important to eat antioxidants, rather than just use creams with them. Most brightly colored fruits and berries contain antioxidants to prevent premature aging of your skin. Regularly include strawberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges, grapefruits and grape in your diet and you will see how healthy and bright your skin looks.

4 Health Benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid and the Absolute Best Way to Take It

What is alpha lipoic acid and what are the different health benefits of alpha lipoic acid? Alpha lipoic acid or ALA is basically a fatty acid. It is an antioxidant that helps counter the harmful effects of circulating free radicals in the body. Usually, antioxidants can either be dissolved in water or in oil but not in both. ALA can be dissolved in both environments, making it very efficient in travelling through the different cells in the body.

It increases the synthesis of glutathione which in turn helps in dissolving toxic substances in the liver. It also helps convert glucose into energy. There are countless health benefits of alpha lipoic acid. Some of the many health benefits of alpha lipoic acid or ALA are listed below.

1. WEIGHT LOSS

ALA helps guide more glucose to the muscles in the body. This helps reduce glucose that is converted into fat for storage and future use, making you increase lean muscle mass. This makes ALA very helpful for those who are into body building and those who want to shed some weight.

2. LIVER HEALTH

It also helps protect the liver by filtering out harmful toxins that may accumulate. For those with liver problems like hepatitis, or have a history of alcohol abuse, and those who are repeatedly exposed to toxins and harmful chemicals that can cause damage to the liver, ALA is very good for you.

3. DIABETES

ALA aids the body in properly absorbing and metabolizing glucose in order to control diabetes and to minimize the risk for complications. Several studies have suggested the value of alpha lipoic acid in decreasing insulin dependence among diabetic patients.

4. SKIN CARE

ALA is also of value in addressing problems related to acne and aging. Since it is an antioxidant, it helps prevent and repair free radical damage and aids in getting rid of toxins and wastes. Alpha lipoic acid is a good ingredient for skin care products that are anti-acne and anti aging.

HOW TO TAKE ALPHA LIPOIC ACID FOR MAXIMUM RESULTS

How do you get the health benefits of alpha lipoic acid? You can get these through both diet and through multivitamin supplementation. Some of the foods rich in ALA are spinach, broccoli, and liver.

For those who prefer a more convenient form of ALA, supplements are a good way to go. It is extremely well absorbed when taken orally.

For even more health benefits, it is advisable to take a multivitamin that contains ALA together with other essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, amino acids, and immunity boosters.

Etta James Hospitalized – Complimentary Options For Protecting the Health of the Elderly

Etta James was born in 1938. Her singing spans blues, rock & roill, gospel and jazz. She is well known for her songs “At Last” and “A Sunday Kind of Love.” She has won 4 Grammy Awards over a dozen Blues Music Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and again in 2001.

The singer has dealt with substance abuse issues on and off since the 1970’s and in 2009 was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. While receiving treatment for over-dependency on pain-killing drugs, a urinary tract infection spread throughout her body causing a condition called sepsis, which is basically the spreading of either the bacteria or the toxins of the bacteria causing the UTI into the blood. It is also known as blood poisoning or septicemia. The development of sepsis in James case is not unusual because, the elderly, black people and people taking many different types of powerful prescription drugs are at higher risk for sepsis.

As people age it is often not unusual to see them taking 5, 10 or even more different kinds of drugs (i.e. for blood pressure, for diabetes, for pain, for their hearts, for their cholesterol, the list goes on and on). Often times some of the powerfully strong medications, like steroids for example can further compromise immune systems in the elderly that may be suspect to begin with and increase the chances for infections occurring and spreading, as in the case of James.

For example, taking 500 mg per day of magnesium with 500-1000 mg of day of potassium can help to either eliminate or reduce the need for high blood pressure medications. Incorporating fibers into the diet can help to control blood sugar levels. In addition, supplements like chromium picolinate at 400-1000mcg per day and alpha-lipoic acid can help with insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control as well. Taking 5000 IU a day of vitamin A, along with 1000 mg per day of Vitamin C can help to prevent the immune system from becoming compromised. Co-enzyme Q-10 is an energy substrate that the body must have and can help to maintain production of energy, especially in heart muscles.

When the elderly are taking so many synthetic prescription drugs the load on their livers and phase I and Phase II detoxification systems is enormous. The are the systems in the body that prepare chemicals, that in many cases can be toxic for elimination. In general the Phase I system prepares molecules for elimination by Phase II compounds. One of the detox compounds of Phase II, is called glucoronic acid and the process by which it eliminates potentially toxic breakdown product of things we eat as well as prescription drugs is called glucoronidation. An enzyme is our bodies called beta-glucoronidase prevents glucoronnidation from binding with the toxic compounds it its meant to eliminate. This can be of concern especially to the elderly or actually anyone on multiple prescription drugs. The dietary supplement calcium-d-glucarate blocks the action of the enzyme beta-glucornidase and allows the detoxification via glucornidation to proceed… This alone can be of significant benefit to the elderly whose liver and other systems may already be compromised.

There is an excellent case to be made for physicians becoming more aware of the natural medicines that can be used adjunctively with the prescription drugs so that fewer of them can be used and those that are used may either work better, with less side-effects in some cases and less toxicity to protect the immune system and over-all health.

Treating Inflammation Without NSAIDs Can Avoid Side Effects Like Bleeding Ulcers and Liver Failure

Alternative practitioners have been treating inflammation without NSAIDs for thousands of years. Herbs, spices and other plants have natural anti-inflammatory activity. We got away from those safe and effective remedies, because the pharmaceutical companies convinced us that their products were better. Now, we know the truth.

The US Food and Drug Administration recently began requiring the pharmaceutical companies to place a black box warning label on acetaminophen, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory drugs. The damage done by those drugs (even the over-the-counter varieties) can lead to liver failure.

A recent study revealed that taking low-dose aspirin for heart health is not a good idea for everybody. Bleeding ulcers are just one of the health problems that can be caused by chronic aspirin ingestion.

The scientists are saying something that natural health experts have been saying for years. Our drugs are doing us more harm than good. Simply stated, they are poisoning our systems. We need other options.

A recent study in New Zealand showed that certain kinds of natural fish oil triglycerides have as much anti-inflammatory activity as aspirin. Clearly, we do have options.

Not all brands can be used for treating inflammation without NSAIDs. According to the researchers, the concentrated oils are more effective than standard fish oil, which contains only 200-300mg of omega-3s per 1000mg capsule. But, the most effective supplements are those that contain the natural triglycerides.

In order for a supplement to use the natural triglycerides, they must be tested for mercury and PCB contamination. Most oils need to be molecularly distilled in order to pass the test.

Small species contain fewer contaminants than large one. Cold water species contain less than warm water species. Species that swim in the South Sea near Antarctica and New Zealand contain the least, because they are far away from the shipping lines and industry.

There are other alternatives for treating inflammation without NSAIDs. For example, some supplements contain flavonoids, alpha lipoic acid, carnosine, turmeric, glutathione, resveratrol and other natural anti-inflammatories.

Piperine (found in black pepper) and ginger are other ingredients to look for. They have been used historically to treat inflammatory conditions.

For conditions like arthritis, green lipped mussel powder has proven to be effective in some studies. There is scientific evidence supporting the use of dietary enzymes, glucosamine, chondroitin and SAM-e for inflammatory conditions of all kinds.

But, those supplements are second-bests when compared with the benefits of fish oil for treating inflammation without NSAIDs. It has been used at least since the days of the Vikings to relieve and prevent painful joints.

Another alternative is to follow an anti-inflammatory diet. Popular foods contribute to the production of inflammatory molecules. The omega-6 fatty acids found in most meats and cooking oils are examples of foods to avoid.

The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil can help to balance out the imbalance found in many modern day diets. So if you do nothing else, start taking fish oil.

Treating inflammation without NSAIDs is possible. Instead of endangering your health, fish oil and other dietary supplements will improve it in many ways.

Alpha Lipoic Acid and Acetyl Carnitine – How We Can Maximize Their Full Potential

Are you one of those who skip the use of after sun moisturizer? If you are currently nodding your head to this question, this is the best time to enlighten yourself and be aware of the merits and demerits of using and not using this moisturizer.

The general sun-loving populace can never go without sunscreens or lotions with SPF. Thanks to the relentless advertising campaigns on television, billboards and prints, we are all too aware of the dangers of too much sun exposure. Even men are slapping sun screen now before hitting the outdoors.

But compared to the popularity of sunscreens, after sun moisturizer is left out in the cold, in the dust, in the dark, or wherever something is forgotten and taken for granted. Our beauty loot is deprived of this essential moisturizer that actually plays a major role in your quest to defy age.

What do you need it for?
After prolonged sun exposure, this is the time our skin feels the full impact done by UV rays. Although we have the protection of sunscreens, some UV rays still prove to be too strong to our delicate skin and destroy the vulnerable protection we have built around it.

If you do not act on it pronto, it may lead to unwanted skin problems such as dry, burnt skin, premature wrinkles and a whole lot more. After sun lotion is the best product that can nourish your skin and alter the effects of UV rays.

What after sun moisturizer should I use?
Now that is the question. Truth is, there is an abundance of moisturizers that take up a huge part of the department store, grocery section and drug stores. But amidst this plethora of seemingly amazing moisturizers, there are some that stands out from the rest when it comes to its endless skin benefits. These are the products you have to look for.

When choosing a product, don’t just go picking a brand because of the name or the fancy packaging or the smell. That is just the icing on the cake. You would want to look for the taste of the whole cake and know if it is made from the finest and the freshest ingredients. You should look for ingredients that can nourish and protect your skin from premature aging.

UV rays are notorious for destroying our skin’s collagen and elastin. Try looking for CynergyTK, a blend of ingredients that enables the regrowth of these two essential components of our skin. Not only can the regrowth hamper the production of wrinkles, it can also bring back its youthful glow and eliminate the fine lines that have already been present.

A product replete with potent antoxidants is also your best bet. Our market is swarming with products that are purported to have antioxidants that combat free radicals. But did you know that there are more potent antioxidants? They are like the generals in the antioxidant populace-better, stronger and more powerful.

Such is the description of Nano-Lipobelle H EQ10. This is the nano emulsed form of CoEnzyme Q10. It is more powerful in the sense that it can immerse deep in the seven layers of your skin to effectively fight harmful free radicals that have wisely imbedded itself deep in your skin unsuspectingly.

Do yourself a favor and keep an eye on an after sun moisturizer with these ingredients. You can better rest easy with a product like this because you are dead sure that it is doing its day of work even when you are doing your own.

Ten Tips on How to Naturally Increase Metabolism and Lose Weight Effectively

Imagine a table with just one leg – it will be tilting to one side, or will need support to stand up right.

It will not stand with just one additional leg, nor with two additional legs; but add in three legs to make four, and you will have a sturdy table that will stand up right and carry weight.

Our body is the same, we need to balance out all our four “legs” before we can stand up right. These four legs are a proper exercise regime, a healthy and nutritious diet, adequate rest and a good metabolism.

Why is our metabolism so important? And how can we naturally increase metabolism?

Studies have shown that our diet and our metabolic rate are closely related. Our metabolism will adjust according to the food we eat; it is simply the way our body makes use of all the calories we consume. The reason why a starvation diet is so disastrous for our metabolism is that with less food, our body will slow down to compensate for the lack of food, and your body will burn the calories slower.

The result will be rapid weight gain after the starvation period, as your metabolism is still in slow mode while you eat normally again.

So what can one do to naturally increase our metabolism and lose weight effectively?

Ten Tips To Naturally Increase Metabolism

1. Eat more frequently but eat smaller portions. Aim for five small meals a day, but remember, eating more meals does not mean eating more calories in a day. It is just spreading the calories out more.

2. Never skip breakfast. Have an early breakfast and stop eating about three hours before bedtime. Our metabolism slows down during the night, but in the morning, it will need fuel to kick start it to burn calories.

3. Make some healthy switches from your existing diet. Let’s face it, who wants to count calories? But by switching for example to whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta and lean proteins such as chicken and fish, these little changes over time will start making a big impact.

4. Stay away from the bad stuff. This really needs no elaboration – cakes, pastries, take away food, processed food, sugary snacks, sodas, chips, fried foods….. We all know what’s bad for us.

5. Drink lots of water. First thing in the morning in a standing position, try to drink 3/4 to 1 litre of water straight down in one continuous motion, without gulping. Aim for a total of two litres of water during a day.

6. Another drink to increase your metabolism is Green Tea. Tea has been shown to have thermogenic properties and this helps to burn the calories stored in fat cells. Green tea is believed also to accelerate the functioning of cells, which indirectly increases our metabolism.

7. Take muscle building supplements such as DMAE (Dimethylamnoethanol) and CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid). Many fitness experts agree that building up your body muscles is another way to boost metabolism. In both these supplements, your muscles are strengthen which in turn, helps your body to burn more calories and reduce more fat.

8. Other supplements to consider are antioxidants such as vitamins A,C and E, but one of the most powerful antioxidants is Alpha Lipoic Acid. These supplements will help your body produce energy efficiently, and therefore, help increase metabolism. The B vitamin group is also important as it helps the body to break carbohydrates down into glucose, providing the body with energy.

9. Exercise properly. Go on an exercise regime that will tone and strengthen your muscles. Toning one’s muscle can help burn extra fat but it does not mean huge bulging muscles. Exercises such as light weight training, swimming, brisk walking are all great exercises to tone and strengthen your muscles. Think lean, strong long distance runners rather than big hulking body builders.

10. Be consistent in your activities. It is important to choose something you enjoy and to vary the routine, but the most important thing is to do it regularly. So make sure it is something enjoyable, that you will stick to and it does not have to be one activity repeated over and over again.

(note: Consult your physician before taking supplements and going on an exercise regime. All supplements and exercise regimes should be taken under professional medical guidance)
